Today in my Women in Leadership class, I had a thought about a statement my dad made to me a couple years ago about, "Who's voices am I listening to?" It seems that I have gotten away from myself over the past couple of months and more recently have been trying to get back in tune with my soul and the woman that I am.
Thinking about this statement, I remembered that I wrote a note on Facebook about this same statement the day it was made to me...
So Today, I am going to share it with you again...So here again, is a word of encouragement.
A Word of Encouragement.
A friend recently told me that, "If you change your mind, you change your life." They continued telling me about the things that motivate them, and gave me the advice they use to achieve their goals, "If you know it, then you can have it." Anything you set your mind to, with the right amount of hard work and dedication and then some, The world is yours. It's hard to stop and ask for help. I know it. Pride is something that can get in the way of a lot of people's achievement along with personal criticism. What God has for you, is FOR YOU. But everything in life cannot be handed to you. Work has to be put in. We live in a day and age where everyone thinks they have a right to something. They are mistaken. You are Privileged. And privileges can be taken from you just as fast as they are given. With that being said, you have to find something that motivates you to keep your privileges. So ask yourself, "What motivates you?" and "Who's voices are you letting influence you?"
Take some time to reflect on who you are listening to, because you can't listen to everyone. If the number #1 voice is not God's, then you need to re-evaluate your life and your priorities. Are you wondering why life has been so difficult recently? Maybe its because God is trying to get your attention and He is trying to develop you. Take it as a lesson. Grow.
Once God has become the #1 voice, determine who else should you be listening to. You can't please everyone, so don't attempt to do so. Everybody isn't out here to help you either, but you have to determine who is on your side. You should keep positive people around you, and those who are like-minded. If they are dedicated to and concerned about their success, and are truly your friend, they will be concerned about your success as well. The reality is that everybody can't be your friend. That is something you have to figure out along the way, by trial and error.
You also need to figure out what motivates you. It doesn't matter what it is, but it must be something that will stand stronger than trials, tribulations, and stumbling blocks that come your way. It must be strong enough to keep you going when the times get rough. There will be times where it will feel like you don't know how to stand, times where you feel like you can't take it anymore, times when you are tired of continuing on your journey, but you must. Your motivation should remind you what you came to do, and push you to the end. The race is not about how you start. And to be honest it may not be even be about how you finish, but rather the way you RUN YOUR RACE. (You have to run in the way you run your race. You cant try to run someone else's.) You could finish in dead last, but if you put in the work necessary, it doesn't matter. As long as you did your best.
"If you change your mind, you change your life." "If you know it [in your mind], then you can have it."
"What motivates you?" "Who's voices are you letting influence you?"
Hopefully these words will be of use to you like they were to me, and remember to "Run YOUR Race."
